Why taxi

Every other out-of-home format waits to be walked past. This one goes looking for the audience.

A taxi is the only format that covers a whole city at street level, all day, and then carries the message inside the vehicle as well. It is bought as media and it behaves like a moving piece of brand estate.

It is also one of the few formats where the campaign keeps working after the media does. A wrapped taxi is a photograph, a launch-day prop and a piece of content, which is why it turns up in PR plans as often as it turns up in media plans.

Four reasons

What a taxi does that a fixed panel cannot.

01

It covers a city, not a junction

A poster site works one location for the length of the campaign. A taxi works the whole city, all day, and keeps moving through the places the audience actually is.

That turns a media plan from a list of sites into a pattern of coverage, and it is why taxi suits a brand launch or a store opening far better than a single high-profile panel does.

02

It works at street level

A wrapped taxi is at eye height, in traffic, beside the pavement, at the kerb outside the venue. It is read by pedestrians and by drivers, from the front, the side and behind.

Height is what makes a mural or a building wrap work. Proximity is what makes a taxi work, and it is a different job.

03

It goes inside as well as out

Tip seats put the brand in front of a passenger for the length of a journey, in a quiet space with nothing competing for their attention.

Very little out of home reaches an audience outdoors and then continues the conversation with them sitting still. Taxi is the format that does both in one buy.

04

It is built for PR and content

A branded taxi is a prop as well as a media placement. It can be positioned for a photograph, driven to a store on launch day, or used to move talent and press between locations.

That is a real, repeated pattern in our work rather than a theory: the format earns coverage and content on top of the media it was bought as.

Formats

Three ways to buy the vehicle, and they do different jobs.

Most campaigns use more than one. A wrap for impact and photography, supersides for spread, tip seats to carry the detail.

Full wrap liveries

The whole vehicle carries the creative, roof to sill. The highest-impact taxi format and the one that photographs best, so it is usually the right choice where PR, social content and launch coverage matter as much as the media.

Supersides

A large panel down each side of the taxi. Lower cost per vehicle than a wrap, so the same budget puts more vehicles on the road and buys frequency and spread instead of single-vehicle impact.

Tip seats

Interior panels facing the passenger for the whole journey. Bought alongside a wrap or supersides to carry the detail the exterior cannot: the offer, the address, the QR code, the thing that needs more than a glance.

Photographs show the formats as they run on London taxis. They illustrate what each format looks like on the vehicle and are not ma campaigns.

What we handle

Booked, wrapped, on the road and evidenced.

ma is independent, so the fleet, the format mix and the city are recommended on what the campaign needs rather than on who we are tied to.

  • Fleet size, format mix and city selection
  • Negotiation and booking with the fleet operators
  • Artwork specification and adaptation to each format
  • Production, wrapping and installation
  • Geographic planning around the areas that matter
  • Location photography and proof of posting
  • PR slots and content capture where the campaign wants them
  • Reporting once the campaign is live

Taxi sits inside a wider out-of-home offer. If you are weighing it against other formats, the out-of-home overview covers the alternatives, and the OOH planning guide covers how to brief any of them.
